Coggoraji

Entry for a        competition, the theme was winter.


8.5 billion years in the future, a sentient race evolved from cockroaches on Mars, this was the Coggoraji. They spread throughout most of the nearby solar system in the next million years, and suffered several great extinctions and apocalypses, including 2 events that brought them back to the stone age. Once they inhabited every single planet in the solar system, they could maintain themselves through enough resources and space to grow. However 4,000 years later  they suffered a population decrease, mostly due to a disease outbreak and a war that was going on. The last of the population was left in a snowy forever-winter planet so far off that the sun was but a speck to them, however just 47 years later, the sun started pulsing. 



 (this creatures written name) was a Coggoraji. One of the last billion or so of its kind since the great vanishing 47 years ago. it was on a hunting trip, trying to nab a creature that resembled a flying fruit. It had wandered fairly far from its city, and it paused to look up at the dark depths of the sky. Usually the only light that shone on its planet was from the  assortment of stars above them, their closest one, the sun, being but a small pinhole of light that blended in with the rest. however, yesterday, for the first time in recorded history the pinhole began to expand and get brighter, then it settling back down, then that happened again a few hours later. This has been repeating itself since yesterday, each time it expanded a bit more. It seemed to be expanding again on its normal routine, except it would not stop this time. The sky flashed bright red, and the pinhole exploded in a bright light, an ocean of fire enveloped half of the sky, and  could see nearby planets and used-to-be mining stations in the sky disappear and burn away in thousands of chunks. it tried to make a run for home, but it felt itself slipping too much to get around anywhere and almost falling into a sinkhole that just opened up in the snow. The snow was melting. In less than a minute the winter planet it had been living on turned into a sweltering pot of water. Snow and ice under its feet transformed into water in fractions of a second.   was waist deep in the warm water. It tried to swim up, but the sky blinded it and made it even more of a struggle. water flooded its three mouths and it could not breathe, and it was now reaching a boiling temperature. Cities sank into the oceans that lifted themselves into the sky in a migration to evaporate and the planet got foggier and foggier from the clouds now swathing the planet, rendering it almost as white as when it was a snowball in the sky. 1 minute later, the planet housing the last Coggoraji had no trace of itself left.  and the rest of its civilization was no more, along with the rest of the solar system that was a birthplace to life.
